Although my dog Lucy isn’t a rescue, I feel like I’ve saved her in other ways. Within a year of getting her she had to have her left knee reconstructed by an animal orthopedist. She has terrible allergies including grass and weeds so she gets allergy shots monthly at her regular vet and has yearly check ups with her dermatologist. The bile in her gallbladder is thick for some reason and she’s on medication and has yearly ultrasounds run by her Internist. My friends laugh and say she found the right owner because a lot of people would have sent her back.
With that being said, she’s the one who rescued me. :)
(My apologies for being a little late to the dog party, but I’ve been immersed in WNBA All Star game activities this past week.)
Bo and Sunny mostly served without incident as First Dogs at the White House, but Sleepy Joe’s best friends were always out for blood, biting Secret Service agents and other staff members on multiple occasions, so eventually Commander and Major had to report for duty elsewhere, and joining a storied pack of misbehaving presidential pet canines, including a few listed below:
- One of FDR’s dogs, a German shepherd also named Major, bit the leg and tore the britches of a British prime minister. (Bloody Troozergate!)
- Teddy Roosevelt had a bull terrier named Pete that once chased a French ambassador up a tree. (Bully and Mauvis Chien!)
- Peter Pan, Silent Cal’s fox terrier while maybe in search of his shadow once ripped the skirt off a woman. (What the hell, Tinker Bell:)
The current resident at 1600 Pennsylvania Ave is the first one in over 150 years not to have a dog, unless you’re counting that Old Yeller weave-like thing cuddle bugging on top of his head.

Isn’t that always the case? Did she have to get the knee on the other side replaced? Someone told me that’s what happens.
It looks like were heading in that direction. :(
Give Peas a Chance.
Ain't dogs great?!
Love that!! Thanks.
