What a charming post. And it applies to more than just the holidays . . . have the grace to "let them" all year 'round. But sometimes easier said than done ;)
Christmas Eve was wild next door. H. Schultz would dress as Santa and deliver things usually naughty . He was happily inebriated when he arrived and we all were when he went home. You guys must have been dealing with last minute shoppers. Now that I think about it, you missed the entire Temple BI Christmas wannabes those nites. I would venture into Boston Hardwood at least once a season to replace broken tree stuff. I probably still have some. BH was a spectacular wonderland then. Even Rabbi Miller dropped in for a drop and admire our Chanukah bush. I was totally mortified. I am a proud curmudgeon about most everything. Christmas Eve and Christmas still fills me with wonder. Is this more of a non sequitur ?
You and I get our Halloween and Christmas mixed, for sure. Of course, as a non-believer, I rarely say "Merry Xmas" (and because I have an "x" in my name, I'm allowed to do that), but "Happy Holidays" because to us, they ARE happy, mostly because it's the one time of year most everyone else is happy. There's just something about the end of the year, dark skies, and spending a shitload of money that makes people somewhat nicer than any other season. And if one doesn't like Christmas (or celebrate it), there are lots of other holidays to choose from, like Kwanzaa, Hanukkah, New Year's, Boxing Day, Bodhi Day, and the big one: Capital One Bowl Week!
Richie, you were meant to be a retail marketing savant given your childhood experience. It was ordained from a young age.
Savant yes, not sure about the rest.... :)

And that's the rub....

Christmas in Hawaii is a terrific cure-all. I guarantee it.
Hey! You can’t guarantee nothing without my permission…🤭
Happy Holidays Richie!
To you, as well Richard….
Well done, Richie. Again.......

And Capital One Bowl Week has become a 3-week fiesta of football! How great is that....
I know, right?
